The weekly group run at my local running store takes place on Thursday's at 6:30 pm. The day started with icy rain in the morning and it was expected to snow later in the afternoon. Not knowing if the run would be cancelled, I called ahead and it was still on schedule despite the super duper cold temps.
I arrived at the store with 15 minutes to spare and proceeded to do warm-ups by jogging in the parking lot. After the usual group pic and a few introductions we took off into the cold and surprisingly well illuminated run.
The group was smaller than the previous run's group and the hard core racers must have skipped because when I looked at my GPS we were running at a 8:40 min/mile pace. I decided to take the lead and broke off from the group. 37 minutes later I was done with the run having run together with one of the guys at the store.
In between the run, I had to shed off my balaclava as I was feeling too hot from running my fastest 5 miles pace to date, 7.25 min/mile. Knowing the importance of cooling off, I spent another 5 minutes pacing outside the store before joining others for a chit chat in the store. By the time I was leaving, the snow flakes had started to fall and I was glad we were done with the run.
So far, this is my 4th week of running and I've been running 4 miles daily, bring this weeks total to 17 miles. I run 16 miles last week, 13 miles the week before and 10 miles on my first week.
My previous Thursday social run was 2 weeks ago and I run at a 8:45 min/mile pace so today's run was an improvement, though it was much tougher on myself but more fun. The plan tomorrow is to take it easy and then do the long runs over the weekend.
